Ahmed Best from Star Wars Envisions ‘Jedi John Wick’ Spinoff Starring His The Mandalorian Character

Ahmed Best, known for his portrayal of Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and Jedi Master Kelleran Beq in The Mandalorian, has expressed his desire to create a film concept dubbed “Jedi John Wick.”

In an interview with ComicBook, Best revealed his vision for a project centered around his character Kelleran Beq, drawing inspiration from the action-packed John Wick films but set in the Star Wars universe.

Describing his concept, Best emphasized the visual spectacle of lightsaber combat and action sequences, drawing parallels to the minimalist dialogue and intense action sequences seen in the John Wick franchise.

Best expressed a desire to showcase his character’s combat skills and expand upon the brief appearance of Kelleran Beq in The Mandalorian, envisioning a film focused solely on lightsaber battles and high-stakes confrontations.

While Best’s appearance in The Mandalorian offered a glimpse of his character’s abilities, he believes there is much more potential to explore Kelleran Beq’s story and showcase his martial prowess in a standalone film.

The concept of a “Jedi John Wick” film presents an intriguing fusion of the Star Wars mythos with the adrenaline-fueled action of the John Wick series, offering fans a fresh perspective on the Jedi Order and lightsaber combat.

Ahmed Best envisions his character Kelleran Beq, inspired by Filipino martial arts, as a unique addition to the Star Wars universe, drawing parallels between Beq’s combat style and the fast-paced action of the John Wick franchise. He highlights the revolutionary nature of Filipino martial arts and its influence on iconic figures like Bruce Lee, expressing a desire to showcase this dynamic fighting style in a Jedi-centric story.

While Best’s vision for a “Jedi John Wick” film remains a dream for now, his return to the Star Wars franchise in The Mandalorian was well-received by fans. However, with Disney already having a slate of upcoming Star Wars films, including one featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu set for release on May 22, 2026, the realization of Best’s concept may depend on future developments in the franchise.

“I just want to do two hours of lightsabers and people in the way.

With Disney locking in premiere dates for upcoming Star Wars films, fans eagerly await to see which projects will fill these slots. One potential candidate is a film led by Daisy Ridley’s Rey, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, focusing on her efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order after the events of Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker.

Another possibility is a film exploring the origins of the Force, helmed by James Mangold, known for his work on Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Alternatively, there’s speculation about a film that integrates various Star Wars shows like Ahsoka and The Mandalorian, under the guidance of Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer, Dave Filoni.

Taika Waititi, renowned for Thor: Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, is also developing a Star Wars film, though its release isn’t expected until around 2030. Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi, has a trilogy of films announced, although these are not currently in active development.

Additionally, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie was initially canceled due to her commitments to Wonder Woman 3. However, with Jenkins still owing Disney a Star Wars script, there’s renewed hope that Rogue Squadron may be back in development.
