Madame Web‘s leading star, Dakota Johnson, recently disclosed that substantial revisions were made to the movie’s script following her commitment to portray Cassandra Webb.
Speaking to The Wrap, Johnson hinted at the extensive alterations that took place between the initial script and the final version that made it to the screen, though she refrained from delving into specifics. “There were drastic changes,” she remarked. “And I can’t even tell you what they were.”
In the Spider-Man spin-off, Johnson assumes the role of Cassandra Webb, a young paramedic who discovers her burgeoning clairvoyant abilities. The actress shed light on the challenges posed by this facet of her character, particularly during filming, where certain scenes required multiple takes with subtle variations to depict diverse glimpses of the future.
“It necessitated numerous camera setups, effectively tripling the workload,” Johnson elucidated. “It was highly intricate, with only minor discrepancies between each iteration of the same scene, akin to piecing together a complex puzzle while meticulously maintaining continuity.”
Expressing her initial apprehensions, Johnson admitted concerns regarding the film’s overall outcome. She confessed to grappling with the unfamiliarity of working with blue screens, a first-time experience for her on Madame Web’s set. Despite her uncertainties, Johnson placed her trust in director SJ Clarkson’s guidance and vision.
“The prospect of acting against blue screens amidst simulated explosions felt surreal,” Johnson recounted to Entertainment Weekly. “I questioned whether my performance would translate effectively. But I trusted SJ Clarkson implicitly. She’s been unwavering in her dedication to this project from day one.”
Through Johnson’s insights, it becomes evident that Madame Web’s journey from script to screen was a testament to the collaborative efforts of its cast and crew, navigating through narrative revisions and technical challenges to deliver a cinematic experience poised to captivate audiences.
